October is National Physical Therapy Month!
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) has been celebrating Physical Therapists this month and we would like to join them, as this month comes to a close, in celebrating the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Educational Programs.
All 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and five territories, offer a physical therapist license to graduates of a Board approved physical therapist professional education program. Most state/territory boards require that the program be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Most states/territories also require the applicant to have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) and a jurisdictional exam.
Physical Therapists develop mastery of content across the foundational and clinical sciences as well as in areas such as communication, ethics, and management. In addition, to be eligible for a license, students or recent graduates of a didactic program in physical therapy complete a clinical education component.
Physical therapy educational programs have a responsibility to help their students understand whether their program will meet state/territory requirements in the jurisdiction the student wishes to practice. We can HELP educational programs understand and communicate the requirements to students. Let us know if you want HELP!
